Below I am posting this quote from an email I received from a co-worker this week, and it really stuck out to me. From the way we set ourselves apart from one another as individuals to say or to visually express our style and personality to the world as well to ourselves/family. We classify ourselves and evaluate ourselves based off of what we see, hear, think and respond to the world around us as well as how the world responds to us. We are always looking inward and outwardly. How do you feel about this quote?

Tell US more--how do YOU relate this to drawing, or perceiving?
ReplyDeleteMy first blog. I am totally amazed at the level of talent and seemingly educated peers of today .Yes , I am the old guy that everone is wondering "why is that guy in here"? A fifty-one year old displaced furniture Finishing designer working out of the Chemical coatings arena for the past twenty-six years. I have spent the best part of my life attempting to persuade the average consumer that the overall quality of one product "Home Furnishings" is of a higher value than its competitor through the finishing process /painting, staining, sealer, glazing layering time upon time utilizing chemical coatings in combination to achieve the end result. Perception! Let's make a silk purse out of a sows ear??? For profit! This quotation in question is speaking to me about "PERCEPTION" and reminds me of another quote of an unknown origin : that is "People may doubt what you say, but they will always believe what you do"! Perception ,can be a very interesting but also a potentially dangerous thing. Things are more often than not, what they seem on the outside . Which brings me to how this can relate to drawing and life, if you will. Look deep into the meaning of life and/or at the inner workings your subject matter ,for each has its own uniqueness that requires just that! A detailed viewing of the inside, that will enable you to translate/ see what it is that you intend or desire to draw or depict. A very sublime exterior may lead you to a very delicate/detailed/intricate interior.Food for thought: Slow down, look deep and long and smell the charcoal. Call me crazy but, accepting first impressions/Perceptions without deep contemplation/reflection and study is a fools approach to life. Drawing is seemingly the same, it takes deep study,contemplation,planning and reflection prior to putting anything to paper/canvas etc. In order to capture a feeling and a sense of purpose there is more to drawing than being able to reproduce recognizable objects,people and scenes. It's about depicting/instilling feeling/purpose the need for that particular drawing/painting to even exist. Any comments ?
